Got Issue 14 of EV and The Harlequin & the Train by Paul G. Tremblay
Only read a handful of stories from the issue of EV, but I love it so far. Lisa Snelling’s Poppets grace a full cover color, and I must admit, I really like the paper-back book feel to this. It reminds me more of PostScripts magazine than LCRW, and feels more like a professional production than a zine. One one hand, I like the zine feel. OTOH, this copy will last a lot longer. Which is a good thing.
Paul G. Tremblay is one of my new favorite writers. I got hooked on Chizine’s The Teacher, and then grabbed a copy of City Pier and absolutely loved it. The Harlequin & the Train does not dissapoint. Clever, croaching psychological horror protrayed in one of the most unique ways possible. The whole design of the book is like notebook, the cover art and the pages look like some diary from a High School student. And, it even includes a very cool bit of interaction with the reader- you are requested to go through and use a yellow highlighter to highlight certain words. Awesome. Definately pick this one up.
