later this week I plan on comparing several movies that have similar themes but each one approaching it in an entirely different way. It seems odd that people only know Natural Born Killers as the love laced road movie with serial killing and violence. There are many more, and it seems to be a kind of American Mythology, an American Story, a story that confronts our guns and violence and everything else head on and helps us question what we’re doing, why we’re a country that does what we do. It’s basically an inversion of the classic “Searching for America Road Trip” story, a way of turning it on its head and exploding.
The movies I plan on comparing and contrasting are: Bonnie and Clyde, Doom Generation, Natural Born Killers, Kalifornia, Badlands. Badlands has an interesting side note of being inspired by the real life road trip murdering couple from the 1950’s, Charles Starkweather and Carol Ann Fugate.
