So, yesterday I was testing out a Windows version of RCS, to make it easier to back up and make versions of my writerly files like novels and etc etc etc. Well, it turns out that this backup completely trashed my files. Which was a headache you can’t believe. I lost a lot of work, recovered a lot of work, and spent the morning screaming in my head and hoping that my brain didn’t turn to jelly.
So now I’m back at sqaure one: backing up via email. Hopefully this works, but it requires me to actually back up each version. And I am a very lazy man….

I have yet to follow-through with my own backup plans, but my theoretical plan is to write my stuff to a DVD once per month, and just use a thumb-drive inbetween then. This could become more complicated as I get more stuff, though…
well, take it from me:
Thumdrives aren’t perfect!
Yeah, if my files ever become corrupted, I’ll just be copying corrupted files onto the drive, obliterating my non-corrupted ones. Which is rather disheartening. But that is why I am supposed to be doing the DVD writing thing also. Once per month. Maybe once per week. Of course, I have to actually do it at some point…
Lol, yes, but the filesystem on thumbdrives can easily become corrupted themselves
I’m looking for a way to do it that doesn’t require me to think about it. If I think about it, I don’t do it
You should build a robot to take care of this for you.
