Another excerpt from the third Raven’s Cycle Story

This one is becoming a beast to write- spending most of this weeks tinkering with it. Here’s another excerpt from it:

Tobacco smoke like spirit, like fire, ensconced and drowning them inside of it as they walked the length of the cattle run and emerged on the otherside. There the moon shone on the heavy metal armor of the dog men and women, their pale face glowing like mini moons on the earth. The beards of the men crawling down over plates on chest, tangling between the chinks of iron mail.

Glistening above them were the machines. Noise creatures, thunder beasts, tamed and built by dog children. These were the creatures that had made the noise above him, towering beasts, giant things, clockwork, automaton, puppets of gods, warthings, glaring down, moon glinting on iron flesh. Their gears turned, teeth in teeth, five of the giants, towertall, standing over the city built into rock. Flames and steam shot from shoulders as dog men sat squat on heads of their monstrous creations.

Abeyto was in awe. “What are these things?”

Old lady turned, looked at him, pipe in hand. “Shh. Stupid coward. They can hear us still, even if the smoke hides us. Those are the war gods. Pets of the dog children. They’ve destroyed your village and will destroy more. They’ve been killing the Weha, one village at a time, with these beasts.”

  1. bernard says:

i wish i had a better memory to tell you which early christian writer (like 3 or 4hundred a.d. kinda time period) wrote that there’s only two kinds of people who don’t have beards, boys and women. but i don’t.

that’d hurt if your beard got stuck in the links in your armor.

better keep that thing trim. looks more respectable too i hear. but that’s why i try not to go out and i don’t wear chain armor anymore. stick with invisible forcefields and dead bugshells.
i got a black jar with some fairy wings tho if you want one lemme know.

  2. Love these excerpts.

Little typo: “ensconced and drowning them inside of it as they walked ***they*** length of the cattle run and emerged on the otherside.”

    Thanks for pointing that out!
