Doctor Who: Turn Left

There is only one bad thing I can say about this episode: the special effects were bad.  Like pre-1970′s Doctor Who bad.  That insect effect?  What?  Did they run out of CG?  It was just rubber, and, well…

Ah, to hell with it.  That was the only bad part of the episode.  These last few episodes seriously made up for the one or two weak episodes we had in a row (including that gibberish that tarnished the name Sontaran) this season.  I mean, really Turn left was awesome.  Just all out awesome.  And bringing back Bad Wolf?  Excellent!  Great idea, I loved it.  This is starting to feel like the darker Doctor Who we saw in the 2004 season.  And to top it off, I was really on edge, wondering if Donna Noble was going to die.

And was relieved that she didn’t.  Kudos.  That was a great episode.  With this and Midnight, I am a little sad to see Russel T. Davies stepping down.

Hah. You might want to think about putting a spoiler warning on that, sir :)

I don’t mind spoilers, but I’m sure someone else might :)

Pshaw. All of my Doctor Who posts contain spoilers.

I cannot wait to see RTD step down. And to see Donna die.

I’m hoping with Steve Moffat in charge, there will be finally less that I have to ignore per episode in order to get to the enjoyable core that’s usually underneath. Except with episodes such as “Love and Monsters,” which are worthless to the core.

I don’t know- you watch the earlier seasons, when RTD was in his prime (and before he started pulling out the camp, and they were experimenting with the format more and characters more) and you can see that when he’s on his game he’s ON.

I’m not sure Moffat will give us more good than what we’ve got now- his episodes are excellent, but not as tightly woven as RTD’s good ones. Which makes me wonder if he can pull in the reigns of some of the shittier writers they’ve got on staff.
